About

Hi! I’m Autum Mihm a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), a certified Nutrition Consultant (NC), former Ironman-finisher triathlete, hiker, traveler, dog/cat/chicken lady, explorer of fringe concepts and seeker of truth.

My interest in health and fitness began back in 2008 when I started racing triathlons. I was working for a nonprofit at the time and completing my Master’s in Public Administration at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. I finished Ironman Florida in 2009 and Ironman Arizona in 2010.  The last event I completed was Ironman 70.3 in Racine, Wisonsin in 2014; the thrill of racing was wearing off for me.  By then I was feeling a desire to dive deeper into the world of nutrition and decided it was time to pack up and head west to California.

After graduating from the Holistic Nutrition Consultant Program at Bauman College in Berkeley, CA in 2017,  I worked as a nutrition consultant for a small health food store in Oakland, CA and offered free health seminars throughout the community. During the craziness of 2020, I began missing my family and seeking a way to make a more meaningful impact on people’s well-being.  So I headed back to the coast of NC and began the online Kresser Institute Functional Medicine Health and Wellness Coaching program, graduating in 2022. Since starting that program, I have spent several years and countless sessions coaching clients toward their health goals.

My proudest accomplishment as of late is the homebirth of my first child and I have been blessed to spend the majority of my time at home with her through the first year of her life. Naps and downtime afforded me the space to study for the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching Exam and I am excited to be launching my business taking clients virtually and option of in-person (within in the Wilmington, NC area).

A few other achievements: I have facilitated a number of meditation and recovery groups, and have co-facilitated a spirtual Women’s Circle for the past three years.

My philosophy as a health coach: I am not an expert in your life and I will not tell you what to do; you are the expert in your life, and my hope in working together is that I help you tap in deeper to your inner knowing and intuition so you can achieve your own personal state of well-being and vitality.

What is Health Coaching?

Health coaching is distinct in its influence on patient outcomes through its unconventional client-centered, growth-fostering, thought-provoking partnership with clients that assists them with achieving their highest level of health and well-being. Clients take full responsibility for:

  • Designing their personal vision of wellness
  • Crafting the goals to achieve it
  • Taking consistent action toward their goals
  • Monitoring their progress along the way

Health coaching skillfully facilitates clients’ engagement and investment in their capacity to change, implement their practitioner’s recommendations, and move beyond mere symptom management toward optimal health and wellness, which is something that is sadly missing in today’s healthcare model. In this light, “health coaching has the power to turn the tide of the chronic disease epidemic—and change the world.” Uniquely positioned at the center of health coaching’s transformative process are the four pillars of health coaching, which enable health coaches to empower positive patient outcomes.
